Hi, I'm Margie!

My name is Margie Ruddenklau and I want to be your voice for the Southland District Council. As a lifelong resident of Southland, I’ve volunteered for local organisations such as schools and sporting bodies, and I owned and operated Marine South for 10 years. Currently, I’m enjoying farming in the Lora Gorge. There’s nothing quite like the green pastures and rolling hills of Southland.

I would describe myself as a Southlander through and through, and I want to see the region and its people thrive. I’m an advocate for efficient social services like roading and infrastructure, but I know it’s important to see that rates are maintained at reasonable levels.

I believe that anything worth doing is worth doing with full effort. As your councillor, I will be open and available, both in and outside of the office. When you have a concern or improvement, let me know what you think and how we can do better. I want to be a new, passionate voice for Southland, and I look forward to the chance to represent you.

New voice. New ideas.

Southland is an incredible place. With booming businesses, endless ways to appreciate nature, and hard-working, honest people, I believe it’s one of the best places in the world to live. And as your Southland District Councillor, I would work hard every day to see it become even better.

If elected, I would see that our roads and infrastructure receive the attention they need. Southland is a vibrant and open region and it needs to be safe and accessible for residents and visitors alike.

I believe that Southlanders need a connection to their councillor and need someone in office who will represent the best interests of the community.

I am and will always be a Southlander first, as a business owner, a farmer, mother, and a volunteer. I pay close attention to the needs and politics of our region, but I’m not a lifelong politician and aim to bring a new, diverse voice to the council.

Everyone deserves to have their voice heard. As your councillor, I will do whatever I can to be accessible and open to you. Feel free to talk to me, call me, or email with any issues, concerns, or improvements that you have. Only by listening to each other and having a conversation can we hope to do better and focus on what matters.

Together, we can make Southland an even better place to live.

A voice from the people, for the people.
